Flames of War - (Tutorial) - Building Bockage the easy way

Happy Easter to all of you !

I enjoyed a nice and easy day at Garretstown Beach today with Wargaming in mind.

Small stones for no money
Sand for no money

What else you need ? Similar "products" lets you pay a whole sum for buying. Now I enjoyed the sun , had a lovely day outside... took my dogs out for a walk and got cheap materials in extraordinary amounts... yeah.. thats the way it should go...

So Bockage it is tonite.

Take a Tonguestick , stones and simple filler....

1) Use filler to build up a larger part of a hill
2) cover the stuff with your small stone
3) carefully press a bit here and there
4) extract your stuff again
5) do some finetuning adjustments to get the correct high and leave to dry
6) Paint
7) Glue some flock on it

Enjoy :)

Flames of War - Tabledesign - New table in progress

Hi all,

as eastern leaves you with a couple of days of from work I bought this excellent stuff called:
Xtratherm tf80

Great stuff for building larger things with a nice carved out side so you can easily stick more then one of these together. My local DIY store had a special offer regarding 5 of those sheets (measuring 120cm by 45cm, TF80 means its 8cm high or thick). You do not need any special hot metal to cut it as a normal kitchen knife will do the job as well without you getting to sweaty. Love this stuff.

So first of all the plan:
Get a gaming table of approx 120cm by 135cm
Get some hills on that and carve in a river section.
Paint the stuff upfront
Do finetuning...

here is the actual look alike of a sheet 120cm by 45 with the hills at the highest point raised to 16cm. For flocking....you can either buy an overextent of flock from your local hobby store and get your wife angry because you always will lose some of the flock later on and it will be transported through the whole house or you take a look at Lidl Ireland and get your hands on this:
Artificial Grass Mat (100cm by 200cm):
Special offer in Cork approx 8 Euro for that size. Nothing you will lose and so the best choice of a gaming mat with gras. In regards... a similar product by Games Workshop costs approx 30 Euro (for what ?????)

Next steps include the finetuning of the stone areas and then cutting the mat to fit here :)

Flames of War - Basing (Tutorial) - PaK , ZIS2, ZIS3, any other large bases

Hi all,

quite a bit quite around so I need to give you a couple of new stuff. First of all , and that is something for me very important.. you will be able to get your hands on my self build stuff in the future. I did a couple of investments there, but by all the emails I got I finally took over the decision to do rebuild some of my older stuff for mold casting.

All the stuff will be handled in high level cast resin and will probably be available through ebay as well as I am currently setting up a webpage with "wix.com" to get an online shop, system setup and running.

For today I want to present large bases (3 different ones) for more close quater fightings in city or more urban areas.

All bases here are made of foamcard, secured with plaster and have some initial castings glued on. All you see here are the masters for the mold:

Flames of War - Resources / Painting Guides - Differences in German Uniforms in colours

Hi all,

after all some research on different pages and other literature I finally can come around with a couple of colour schemes for painting different german uniforms:

Here we go:

German Army WWII

All colours used are from the Vallejo Model Colour range. Of course you will find differences in the internet everythere becaus everyone seems to be slightly using a different colour scheme but that is ok. Why you may ask yourself ?
Well, the german campaign dresses throughout the war changed quite often and also differed from manufacturer to manufacturer. At the end of the war you will find that german uniforms often let them look like like gipsies as they used all types of different uniform patterns that still were available.

Item Colour
Uniform German Fieldgrey WWII (70830)
Helmet¹ German Grey (70995)
Bread Bag, Shovel Cover, Gaiters German Camo Beige (70821)

Flames of War - Tutorial - Buildings from cork tiles

Hi all,

this was a rough learning point for me as I never ever did something like that before. At current state I am learning a bit on how to do my own buildings...

First results here.

Things I used:

- floortiles made of cork
- sealing material for cork
- sharp knife
- my own castings of doors and windows

Step by Step

1) Figure out what exactly you are heading for. It is always good to draw a plan and to get a measurement here upfront. I always tried to build something that either went terribly wrong because of the sizing or because I did not draw accurate.

2) Transfer whatever your drawing looks like to your cork floortile. Bear in mind of not wasting too much of it by leaving to much space.

3) Use a really sharp hobbyknife (no scissors) to cut out your exact plan.

4) cut out your window and doorframe.

5) Insert the castings with superglue

6) fill up any gaps

7) use the sealing material for cork

8) glue the pieces to a glass board

9) use liquid latex for making your moulds

10) replicate your building as often as you need it

Measurements I find fitting:

The worst part of all this constructional thing is always the question :
What measurements are appropiate ?

I found out for me that approx these should be fine for building:

15mm buildings:

Simple peasant house:
80mm by 65mm and 30mm heigh per story

Church:
140mm by 75mm and 40mm heigh per story

28mm buildings:
110mm by 140mm and 45mm heigh per story

Enjoy
